Sažetak

This topic is discussed broadly in terms of theology and society, uncovering often very different opinions. Some widely accepted views are at odds with fundamental
concepts of the dignity of man and woman, and are not in accordance with Scripture or with the current teaching and practice of the Church. The movement for the liberation of women and their equality with men developed as a reaction to earlier assumptions and practices. The tension between contrary views of the role and position of women in society has been particularly pronounced in Bosnia and Herzegovina and it has been evident in the three principal religious communities, Catholics, Orthodox and Muslims. But the situation is improving. In the midst of broad discussion of and active support
for the rights and dignity of women, we must not forget the most precious thing – and that is that only a woman can be a mother and that her role in this is irreplaceable. All our efforts must take place in light of this – that we value and support the dignity of woman as mother, above all else.
