Sažetak

The specific aspect of the solfeggio teaching determines very limited possibilities
of the use of textbooks in teaching that subject. The books that were
called or are still called textbooks can really be used just as a collection of
examples for singing or music dictations. However, because of the usual way
of writing these books, which present what should be and partly what is taught
in the solfeggio teaching in the primary school, according to the opinion
of the outstanding music pedagogues and musicians, these books could be
used by solfeggio teachers as supplementary books in realizing a meaningful
conception of the interpretation of the rhythm and intonation patterns. By
analyzing these two components of the solfeggio teaching in the contents of
each book, drawing conclusions mostly indirectly from the melodious-rhythmic
examples and partly from the author's short instructions, it was possible to
find out the basic meaning of the general conception of rhythm and intonation,
then the principles the suthors were guided by, the methods of intonation
or, even more often, the ways of approaching the subject, which the
authors intended to establish by different treatment of scale and tonality.
By such an approach to solfeggio "textbooks" it was possible to make a
special historic survey of the solfeggio teaching in Croatia, and respectively
follow the long way of maturing of the pedagogical thought and conception
of the true nature of this subject, so important in the education of professional
musicians: from an initial understanding of solfeggio as an accompanying
subject in the education of choir singers to the present-day conscious approach to solfeggio as a subject whose aims and tasks are to attain very
complex knowledge and skills as a basis of gaining numerous rhythms and
intonation patterns.
