Abstract

The Pećine Tunnel is now under construction on the national road D404 which connects the centre of Rijeka with the Rijeka Bypass at the Draga Interchange. The tunnel is 1258.50 m long and has three three-lane and two four-lane sections, as well as two connections to underground carparks. The tunnel route, parallel to the Rijeka – Zagreb railway line, runs under the urban area, and traverses highly fragmented rock formations. Principal data about the design and construction of the tunnel are given, and its special features are emphasized.
