Abstract

The article contributes to the knowledge about Vladimir Tkalčić’s social engagement
as an intellectual by exploring his correspondence with the ethnologist
Milovan Gavazzi. The correspondence is considered in the context of intellectual
history and emphasised as important for studying the subdiscipline of
the history of Croatian ethnology. Given the special nature of the correspondence,
which combines professional and personal elements, the paper is divided
into three parts that follow different aspects of the analysed correspondence:
ethnographic, musicological, and personal.
