Abstract

The results of original research on the use of AutoCAD Map in cartographic line generalization are given. Basic characteristics of the algorithm that is installed in AutoCAD Map and that serves line simplification have been established. Some errors in AutoCAD Map's manual that refer to line generalization have been identified. The use of AutoCAD Map for line simplification in different scales is illustrated on examples of coastal line of Istria and a part of land boundary. The influence of the choice of tolerance to the results of generalization is considered. Research has shown that for the chosen line width the ratio of tolerance and map scale acquires a constant value by getting the best results.
