Sažetak

This paper deals with the grave altar of Marcus Ulpius
Veratius, the only grave altar with rectangular body from
the Roman province of Dalmatia bearing an image of the
deceased. The form and structural features of the monument,
the fashion, stylistic, physiognomic and formative
features of the portrait, and the previously unnoticed remains
of fixtures to hang wreaths and decorative ribbons
are all considered. Based on an analysis of all of these elements,
the emergence of the altar is placed in the first year
of the reign of Emperor Hadrian, probably in the early
twenties of the second century AD.
