Abstract

Rabbits are very popular and common pets. They can develop different diseases but females very often suffer from reproductive system pathologies. If fetal death occurs during the pregnancy of a female rabbit, it may result in abortion, fetal maceration or fetal mummification. The mummified fetus progressively dehydrates and becomes a dry and hard mass, which is very easily detected during X-ray imaging. The case is presented of a rabbit with an incidental finding of two mummified fetuses in the uterus horns. Due to the patient’s age, it was not possible to remove the altered fetuses, so the condition of the mummified fetuses and the mother’s health condition were regularly monitored by X-ray and ultrasound. For a period of one and a half years, the described pathology did not affect the clinical status of the animal.
