Sažetak

Role and significance of scientific and professional journals in cultural and technological society development is pointed out. An overview of the Croatian technical journals during different historical periods, i.e. from issuing of the first journal VIESTI KLUBA INŽINIRAH I ARHITEKTAH in 1851 until the WWI, in the period between the WWI and WWII, in ex Yugoslavia, and after 1991 in the independent Republic of Croatia, is presented. A special attention is paid to journals printed during the industrialization period of the ex Yugoslavia. An overview of the Journal RAD of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, started in 1867 as a common organ of all Academy Departments, and special series of the Department for Technical Sciences which appeared in 1982, is given. An overview of the actual Croatian technical journals, which are dominantly of international profile and cover most of the technical fields, is impressive and in trend with contemporary technological development.
