Abstract

All over the world, there are a whole series of unresolved border disputes, and often, they are the source of political instability between countries, which then subsequently turns into military conflicts. There are currently over a hundred border disputes in the world, covering the territories of Africa, Asia, America, and Europe. Geodesy is a science that, among other things, deals with the measurement of land and the Earth, and one of the most important tasks performed by surveyors is certainly identifying and defining the position of the border on the ground, that is, they participate in the demarcation process. The paper will present the basic characteristics of the state border determination process, examples of the use of modern technology, and the application of old maps and plans and new ones for the purpose of resolving border disputes.
