Abstract
SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION: Cardiovascular diseases are a significant public health problem
throughout the world. The leading cause of death in the developed world and in
Croatia.
The fact that cardiovascular disease increasingly affects younger people of both sexes
is worrisome and the World Health Organization estimates a further increase of
patients with these types of diseases.
Every second of mortality due to cardiovascular disease, with a share of 49.2% (25 631
persons) in total mortality 2010th year.
There are many causes and risk factors of cardiovascular disease and may be divided
on those that may be affected and the ones that we can not influence. Risk factors that
we can not control are age and gender and a positive family history. Research has
shown that the most common risk factors that cause cardiovascular disease: obesity,
physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, smoking, hypertension, and factors that can affect.
OBJECTIVE: To examine the incidence of risk factors in the population of people
older than 50 years, and to analyze the education of the respondents.
MATERIALS AND SUBJECTS: The study was conducted on a sample of 40
respondents As a survey was used anonymous questionnaire with 18 questions
RESULTS: The results showed a significant incidence of risk factors for
cardiovascular disease, but the lack of knowledge of the respondents. More attention
should be paid to health education in order to potentially reduce mortality and the risk
of an individual to develop cardiovascular disease later in life.
