Sažetak
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) announced that tourist arrivals in the world fell by 74%, and in Europe by 71% in the crisis of 2020, due to the consequences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The efficiency and effectiveness of management decisions in the tourism sector were therefore of great importance for the hotel industry during the pandemic. The subject of this paper is the analysis of business performance and management decisions in the company Maistra d.d., whose parent company is Adris grupa d.d., before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The tourism sector is the most important branch of the economy in the Republic of Croatia and accounts for 20% of GDP, making Croatia the leading country in the European Union with the highest share of the tourism sector in total GDP. This is evidenced by the decline in GDP in 2020 of 8.1%, as well as GDP growth of 10.4% in 2021 when the epidemiological situation was more favorable. For the analysis of the performance of Maistra d.d., secondary data sources were used, more precisely the audited annual financial statements obtained on the website of the Zagreb Stock Exchange and the official website of Maistra d.d., comparison and description methods were also used. The contribution of this work will be visible through analysis and methods based on objectivity, reliability, precision, systematicity, and generality, which will determine whether the companies in the hotel industry or in catering industry, can emulate the Maistra’s management. In this paper, the methods of abstraction and analysis will be used by looking for causes and consequences on whose basis the conclusion will be made, by breaking the unit into its components. Also, in this paper, in addition to the tourism industry, the insurance industry and the food industry are analyzed, which are present in the business of Adris grupa d.d., which is the parent company of Croatia osiguranje d.d. and Cromaris d.d. The conclusion of this paper is that extremely good performance of the company wouldn't be possible without excellent top management that is always in line with the times, that recognizes investment opportunities, thus contributing to the development and expansion of the business of this analyzed group. caused by firms’ strategic actions, but with individual efforts of individuals, and as such does not have statistically significant effect on firms’ innovative outcomes. The implications of this analysis are given in the conclusion of the paper.
