Sažetak

Chemodectoma, or necromaffin paraganglioma, is an extracardiac neoplasia in the area of the heart base. It often occurs in dogs, less frequently in cats, and even more rarely in cattle. This brief review describes the pathoanatomical and histopathological features of the tumor of the aortic body in dogs, which originates from chemoreceptor organs located in the tunica adventitia of the aortic arch. It is the second most common heart tumor, following hemangiosarcoma. Although the etiology of the tumor remains unknown, certain brachiocephalic dog breeds, such as boxers and Boston terriers, are predisposed to its development.
