Abstract
The latest findings and characterization of the molecular structure of allergenic sources responsible for allergic sensitization have contributed to etiological and individually tailored treatment and monitoring of allergic diseases. Molecular allergology has enabled better standardization of allergenic sources in accordance with European legislation. It has also improved the etiological diagnosis of the causative allergen. Ultimately, certain sensitization profiles are associated with specific clinical phenotypes and can be applied to predict the outcomes of clinical interventions. Primarily, this includes planning provocation tests and determining allergens for allergen immunotherapy. The potential role of molecular allergology as a biomarker in the progression of allergic diseases during childhood is emerging, opening the possibility of early preventive interventions.
