Abstract

The focus of the work will be point of view switching in dramatic and theatrical texts from the stylistics, more precisely cognitive stylistics and pragmastylistics perspective. Along with already known linguistic indicators of viewpoint, developed under the umbrella of pragmalinguistics, one of the goals will be to show how the performance potential of the text is reflected in deicticity. An attempt will be made to differentiate the subjective: objective dichotomy and to analyze their fusion in the emergence of the inner monologue. The cognitive-stylistic notion of deictic switching will be highlighted as particularly valuable for studying the point of view switching in dramatic and theatrical texts. Particular attention will be paid to the development of the mentioned concept as a possibility of multi-level communication in drama without the need to include an intermediate level of communication, epistemization in the pfisterian sense of the word or narrator. Using the examples of contemporary Croatian dramas such as Reces i ja by Olja Lozica and Would be a shame if the Plants Died by Ivor Martinić, the tendency in contemporary Croatian drama to thematize the relationship between presentation and narration through linguistic stylistic markers of the narrator, such as the free indirect speech, will be pointed out.
