The Change in the Size of Landscape Samples from the Ogulin Area in Depopulation Conditions

Sažetak

This paper analyses the change in the size of landscape samples from the Ogulin area, where depopulation has long been present. This change has been defined at
landscape type level and for the entire Ogulin area, whereas for establishing landscape
types, the approach based on land cover / terrain usage has been applied; Corine Land
Cover databases of 1980 and 2018 have thereby been used. The data of all censuses
since the mid-20th century have been considered in order to determine the demographic
trends. Spatial analyses with the stated data have been supported by the use of the geographic information program named ArcGIS 10.0. According to the results, since the
mid-20th century, the population of the Ogulin area has been cut in half, whereas since
the 1970s, the depopulation has been continuously present in all the units of local self-
-government. Since the mid-20th century, in the majority of cases at settlement level,
multiple decrease in the number of inhabitants has been established, whereas increase
has been noted in several (eight) settlements only. Approximately over the last four decades (1981–2021), increase has been noted in only two settlements. In the period under
research (1980–2018), increase in the average sample size of the landscape types built
terrain and waters, whilst decrease has been noted in connection with other landscape
types (agricultural terrain; grassland; forest; and bushes / forest succession), as
well as for the entire Ogulin area. It has been concluded that a connection exists between the increase in the area of landscape types and the average size of landscape samples in the following types: built terrain and waters. Decrease in the area of landscape
types and the average size of landscape samples may be brought in connection with the
following types: grassland; forest; and bushes / forest succession.
