Sažetak
Older adults face various interrelated challenges that affect their quality of life. Limited functional ability, limited financial resources, and feelings of loneliness are just some of the factors that contribute to the decline in the status of older adults in society. In addition, modern society often favors younger people of working age, which can foster negative attitudes and increase the generation gap. Bridging this gap is crucial, and intergenerational interaction plays a key role in achieving this. Pettigrew et al. emphasize that close and positive relationships developed through two-way communication contribute to better understanding, tolerance, and the promotion of positive attitudes toward older adults [1]. Research also indicates that children should be surrounded by four to six close adults during childhood, including grandparents. Having grandparents around prevents the development of ageism - stereotypes that lead to prejudice against older adults - and facilitates understanding the processes of growing up and aging. All these factors reduce the risk of depression in older adults and contribute to a more fulfilling life.
