Sažetak

Despite the numerous positive effects of dogs on
the physical and mental health of humans, we should
not ignore the fact that dogs can be a source of various zoonotic pathogens. Dog owners very often consider their dogs as family members and thus achieve
very close contact, which favours the transmission of
zoonotic pathogens. Bacterial zoonoses associated
with pets are a relatively neglected area, and there is
a general lack of data on the prevalence of pathogens
in the pet population or the incidence of infections in
humans that may be associated with dogs. This paper
reviews the various modes of transmission of the most
common bacterial zoonotic diseases in dogs and associated prevention measures.
