Sažetak
During diving activities, specific diseases or injuries related to diving may occur. Diving diseases/injuries include decompression sickness, barotraumas, nitrogen narcosis, and toxic effects of gases under elevated pressure. Decompression sickness and barotraumas, also called dysbaric diseases or injuries, occur due to changes in environmental pressure (ambient pressure). Decompression sickness can be presented in various clinical forms, and as a rule, 98% of cases develop within the first 24 hours after the end of the dive. Symptoms of the disease vary, and if there are doubts about the injured diver’s diagnosis and/or treatment, it is essential to call a medical doctor in the appropriate recompression centre. Specific diving diseases require early recognition and timely and proper care immediately after the diving accident. Treatment of diving diseases/injuries begins with the primary care of the injured diver, which is carried out within the framework of the emergency medical service, which, in addition to the usual acute care measures, must include the continuous use of 100% oxygen and fluid replenishment. It is essential to set the correct treatment indication for hyperbaric oxygen therapy and organize it in the appropriate medical institution. When transporting divers to the pressure chamber, it is recommended to maintain altitude that is not higher than 150 meters from the place of reception. Recompression treatment procedures are carried out for the final treatment. This recommendation presents the current state of knowledge and recommendations on the diagnosis and treatment of diving accident victims.
