Sažetak
The paper analyses the results of the Questionaire for Foster Parents that contains the questions on basic characteristics of foster families in Croatia, the estimates of foster parents in regard to conditions in which they live with fostered children, difficulties they are faced with in their role and suggestions for the improvement of foster home placement. 79 families that take care of 122 children took part in the survey. The results show that most foster parents assess their material and housing conditions as very modest, and that the foster benefit is frequently their only source of income. Low foster care benefits and poor relations with the child’s primary family are the greatest difficulties in performing the role of fosterers. Suggestions of foster parents for the improvement of fostering relate to higher benefits, greater professional assistance, the organization of education and seminars on fostering, careful selection of foster families and greater media presentation of foster care placement as an alternative form of care for the children.
