Sažetak

Eating disorders are conditions in which distorted perception of one’s body and a disturbed attitude towards food result in impaired mental and physical health, as well as changes in social functioning. Given that the mentioned disorders are almost always accompanied by another psychiatric comorbidity, it is important to treat them with pharmacotherapy. Psychotherapy is also of indispensable importance, and physiotherapy is becoming increasingly significant. In physiotherapy, the most commonly used methods are massage, autogenic training, hydrotherapy, and most importantly, kinesitherapy. Physiotherapy is a process that requires an individual approach to each patient, regardless of diagnosis and age. The physiotherapist must work aspart of the medical team and be familiar with the patient’s diagnosis and previous therapy. Physiotherapy has a positive effect on the physical consequences of eating disorders, suchas muscle atrophy and slowed basal metabolism, but it also affects the patient’s psychological status.
