Sažetak
The novel "Stern 111" depicts a historical transition period, along with the accompanying social and personal utopias. This paper examines transitional processes through which these utopias take shape. In so doing, it tackles the question of the quality of these processes: Do they really inspire a paradigm shift, or do they merely represent a reconfiguration of pre-existing structures? Drawing on Bernhard Waldenfels’ notion of the threshold and his responsive ethics, the paper argues that social utopias can only bring forth something genuinely new if they dissociate themselves from normative modes of thought and arise from encounters with the Other.
