Abstract

The article discusses the speleological exploration conducted in the southern part of Velika Kapela by members of the Speleological Department of the Croatian Mountaineering Club “Željezničar”. Intensive exploration began in 2021. During 2021 and 2022, 16 sites were explored, while 2023 brought an additional 28 sites, including the deepest site, Jama pod Jasenovim vrhom (-109 m). In 2024, another 16 sites were explored, bringing the total to 60 explored sites over three years. In addition to numerous speleological discoveries, the exploration provided valuable experience in topographic surveying and cave equipping, which is particularly important for new members. Exploration also contributed to a better understanding of karst circulation in the area. Finally, special recognition was given to the guide, Goran, whose assistance was instrumental in locating new caves.
