Abstract

The paper focusses on the analysis and examination of finds of jewellery from the period of the formation of the Croatian Principality at the turn of the 8th to the 9th century until the Ottoman conquests in the 16th century. It also refers to historical and artistic sources, which provide information on workshops and goldsmiths, the oldest of which date back to the 11th century. The archaeological finds, complemented by the aforementioned sources, clearly provide evidence on how coastal Dalmatian cities supplied their immediate and broader hinterland in the Balkans with luxurious goldsmith works throughout the aforementioned period of time.
