Abstract

Falls and fall-related injuries in the elderly population represent a major public health challenge both in Croatia and in the world. They cause the greatest number of hospitalizations, long-term hospital treatment, disability and can lead to death. As many as 30% of people over 65 and 50% of people over 80 experience at least one fall a year. In Croatia, in people over 65 years, 64.1% of hospitalizations are caused by injuries resulting from falls, which is also the leading cause of death. Physiotherapy prevention of falls and consequences is an unavoidable example of an integrated person-centred care process and requires a larger workforce and restructuring of services.
