Abstract

The article is dedicated to the description and analysis of linguistic correlations of military
terminology in the Croatian and Serbian languages. The article presents a contrasting
distribution of military nomenclature units in the Croatian and Serbian military lexicon. In
the units of military nomenclature between the Croatian and Serbian languages, a three-part
correlation of military terms is shown: general military terms for the Croatian and Serbian
languages, military terms specific to the Croatian language and military terms specific to
the Serbian language. Based on the analysis carried out, we can conclude that there are three
types of equivalent relationships between the Croatian and Serbian military nomenclature:
bilateral military nomenclature equivalents, one-sided military nomenclature equivalents
and general military nomenclature units. Special attention was paid to military ranks in the
Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Serbia.
The need to describe and create a military functional style of the Croatian language was
expressed.
