Sažetak

Contrast radiography examinations, as a form of additional diagnostic imaging, have great significance and
make an important contribution in veterinary practice due to the possibility of better visualisation of organs and
tissues, made possible by use of contrast media. With their increasing popularity, reptiles and amphibians are becoming more frequent pets and patients in veterinary clinics, where they sometimes require a detailed diagnostic workup, including contrast radiography examinations. This form of diagnostics can greatly contribute to the determination of the treatment plan in general and surgical treatment of these animals, having in mind their anatomical and physiological characteristics and peculiarities. The most commonly performed contrast examinations are examinations of the digestive tract, with positive contrast media for diagnosing obstructions, evaluating the size of the digestive tract and the food transit time, evaluating the integrity of the wall, distinguishing the digestive tract from the surrounding tissues, and for anatomical visualization alone. Examinations of the urinary and reproductive systems are also performed with the goal of better visualization, determining the existence of possible masses or herniations, and for determining the gender of snakes and lizards. Despite some limitations, the advantages of contrast radiography and radiography in general are great, as one of the primary diagnostic examinations in the treatment of a patient, but their implementation requires a significant level of knowledge and previous experience.
