Abstract

In this article the author in a popular way attempts to present himself and to the readers an overview of the historical events related to Selce his birthplace, which has developed into a large bay, a cove. Based on various sources and literary writings about the populations which settled in this area over a period of several thousand years, from nomadic tribes to the first sedentary population of Greek sailors, Illyrians, Romans and Croats, Selce cove, as a safe harbour, has to all these peoples has provided shelter and permanent settlement. In the period of the Frankopan and Zrinski rule port traffic increased, which would mark the progress in the building of Selce's trading port until the beginning of the 20th century, when freight traffic began to fade. Trends in tourism have brought new incentives so by the end of the millennium Selce had turned into a renowned tourist destination. Along the coast various moorings, beaches and parks were created. The author of the article draws attention to the historical tracks that are still visible today in many places along the coast. He writes about the pier, the stone blocks, the waterfront and swimming zones and some time fishing area, and emphasises the importance of the local chronicler Ivan Lončarić Papić, who is credited with preserving many relics and historical data.
