Abstract

This article was written after an exhibition held at the Museum of the City of Crikvenica in 2010, on the theme of automobiles and motorcycles in Crikvenica until 1976. The people from Crikvenica bought their first five cars in 1927, and it was only in 1940 that the road from Sušak to Novi Vinodolski was finished, which was 8 metres wide. The first international car race from Germany-Crikvenica, was organised by the ADAC German automobile club, and held in 1933. This and later races marked the start of the development of motoring tourism in Crikvenica. The first motorcycles races in Crikvenica were held in 1945 and 1949 and the first automotive society was established in 1948. On 10th August 1952 the first speedway race was held in Crikvenica, the first in the former Yugoslavia. The races were held until 1977 and marked by two personalitiesof Croatian speedway: Nikola Bošković – Brada and Nikola Šnjarić – Mika.
