Sažetak

In occupational therapy, mindfulness (present-moment
awareness, attentive presence) as a concept and mindfulness-
based interventions can significantly contribute
to achieving health and well-being through conscious
engagement in everyday life. These practices are based
on developing the capacity to maintain attention and
presence during daily activities. Informal mindfulness
practices focus on integrating mindfulness into everyday
life. This article aims to explore and systematize
possible links between mindfulness and the theoretical
and practical foundations of occupational therapy. The
article demonstrates the connection between mindfulness
and theoretical concepts in occupational therapy,
such as the dimensions of occupations (doing, being,
becoming, and belonging), as well as occupational
participation and engagement. New terms found in
the literature related to the topic of conscious occupations
are also mentioned: mindful participation and
occupational presence. Occupational therapy theoretical
models can be linked to mindfulness through their
common foundations in understanding the person,
environment, and occupations, as well as their holistic
approaches to health and well-being that reduce barriers
to participation in meaningful occupations. The article highlights three contemporary and well-researched
models of occupational therapy and their connections
to mindfulness (MOHO, CMOP-E, and KAWA). Additionally,
examples of mindfulness-based occupational
therapy interventions are elaborated upon, including
occupational analysis, mindful movement, mindful
eating, and promoting sleep quality with mindfulness
support. Finally, the article systematizes the reasons
for incorporating mindfulness into regular education or
as part of the continuous professional development of
occupational therapists, along with possible challenges
and solutions.
