Abstract

Dr. Antun Barac was born on the 20th of August 1894 in Kamenjak near Grižane (Vinodol). He graduated on the Faculty of Arts in Zagreb where he received his doctorate in 1918 with the thesis on Nazor. He worked as a high school professor and as a university professor on the Faculty of Arts in Zagreb. He wrote a whole range of studies, discussion papers, articles and books. He wrote about Nazor, Matoša, Šenoa, Mažuranić, Vidrić, Gdjalski, Kumičić, Novak, Car Emin and others. Deep and lasting values are his work: Croatian literature of the Illyric Period and others. Barac’s work is historic and critical, varied and rich, and in them Barac is seeking for the truth and honesty of the literary piece and he achieves this by a clear and wide vision. Marking the 110th anniversary of the birth of this renowned scholar and Fellow of Academy we can conclude that he left behind him a profound legacy that will be used by those who study and write about new Croatian literature.
