Abstract

One of the most visible characteristics of any text is paratextual elements, i.e. all elements that do not belong to the main text, but surround and complement it. Kristijanović's translations of biblical books abound in various paratextual elements, including that of the largest biblical book, the Book of Psalms (Knjiga šoltarov). Unlike Kristijanović's translations of some other biblical books, the translation of the Book of Psalms has survived only in manuscript, and is kept in the National and University Library in Zagreb. It is a translation that has not been edited for print, so we find numerous translation variants in it that appear in several forms (for example, written above the main text, in its continuation, as footnotes, etc.). The paratextual elements contained in Kristijanović's Book of Psalms include, among other things, introductory texts to individual psalms, footnotes, and an index of psalms.
The paper describes paratextual elements and translation variants from Kristijanović's Book of Psalms. The goal is to list and describe all paratextual elements in it and gain a better insight into Kristijanović's translation technique.
