Abstract

The article discusses and publishes the partial translation of the first book of Virgil's Aeneid undertaken in the first half of the nineteenth century by Franjo Koritić (1771–1846), who wrote in Kajkavian, the literary language of northwest Croatia, including Zagreb. The existence of the translation was recorded by scholars already in the nineteenth century, but it has been presumed lost. The translation was found among the papers of Pavel Jozef Šafárik in the National Museum of the Czech Republic in Prague.
