On the Translation of Proverbs by Ignac Kristijanović

Abstract
This paper explores selected aspects of Prirečja, the translation of the Old Testament Book of Proverbs by Ignac Kristijanović, published in 1859 alongside Žitek sveteh mučenikov. The analysis of Kristijanović’s commentary on the biblical text reveals a variety of interpretive approaches, ranging from explanations of potentially ambiguous passages to more complex theological reflections. Particularly noteworthy are those commentaries that establish a connection between the Old and New Testaments by interpreting certain proverbs through a Christian lens.
