Sažetak
The paper provides previously unknown details about the professional and private life of the Zagreb pianist Ludmila Makovec (married name Kaiser, 1872–1932), who was briefly mentioned in research by Franjo Ksaver Kuhač, Velimir Deželić, Ivan Krašnjak, and Lucija Konfic. Although her concert career can be followed for only five years (from 1889 to 1893), during which we know for certain that she appeared on stage twelve times (twice in Zagreb and ten times in Vienna), it affords interesting glimpses into musical life in Zagreb and Vienna at the end of the 19th century. Her appearances are analysed on the basis of programmes and notices preserved in her press clippings, the number of which has been substantially added to by further research, and augmented by other useful secondary sources. Primary sources, such as registers of births, marriages and deaths, have yielded biographical details about her and her family – parents, brother, sister, and husband Dragutin Kaiser (1873–1915), a well-regarded pianist, conductor and music pedagogue, as well as their four sons. Appended to the paper is a list of her repertoire and a bibliography of works in which she is mentioned.
