Sažetak

In this paper the author considers premarital sexual relationships as symptoms. It is his thesis, that every such relationship is a sign of a distorted understanding of love and as such an expression of unsolved developmental problems. He reviews cases when sexual activity is used as means for achieving recognition from the peer group, as a revolt against parents, as punishment, as an escape from other problems, and as a call for help because of solitude or anxiety. In the second part of the paper the author calls for an integral sexual education program, which includes seven dimensions: anatomic-biological, physiologic-functional, individual-psychological, social-psychological, depth-psychological, moral and ethical, and religious-christian. At the end some psychological arguments in favour of premarital abstinence are discussed. The author points out how premature sexual experiences can block further affective development and reduce the freedom which is needed for a responsible choice of the appropriate partner.
