Abstract

The paper highlights the most important events and persons in the history of the Archdiocese of Đakovo-Osijek. The original name was the Diocese of Bosnia. The fall of Bosnia under Turkish rule in 1463 and the fall of Slavonia in 1536 are crucial events in the history of the Diocese of Bosnia. With its unification with the Diocese of Srijem in 1773, the name was changed to the Diocese of Bosnia or Đakovo and Srijem. With its elevation to the position of archdiocese in 2008, the Diocese of Srijem became independent, and the Diocese of Đakovo or Bosnia was named the Archdiocese of Đakovo-Osijek.
