Abstract

Public safety is one of the fundamental prerequisites for stable social development and citizens’ quality of life. In contemporary societies, where security challenges change dynamically, building trust and two-way communication between citizens and security institutions is crucial for the timely identification of problems and the design of effective preventive measures. Systematic monitoring and analysis of citizens’ views enable the targeting of police activities to the real needs of the community. The aim of this survey research is to examine public perceptions of the security situation and related challenges within the jurisdiction of the Brod-Posavina Police Administration. The study was conducted as a cross-sectional online survey of a non-probability purposive (convenience) sample of citizens (N = 1032) from the Brod-Posavina Police Administration area, using a structured questionnaire distributed via social networks and local media portals. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods, including tests of group differences and assessments of associations between variables. The study contributes to strengthening cooperation between the police and citizens, developing a participatory approach to shaping security policies, and improving the overall quality of life in the local community.
