Abstract

This paper examines the influence of Croatian philologist Fran Kurelac (Bruvno in Lika, 1811 – Zagreb, 1874) on the intellectual development and national consciousness of brothers Jakšić from Ilok. The foundation of the research lies in the analysis of correspondence, which highlights Kurelac’s role as a teacher and patriot, as well as his contribution to linguistic standardization and Croatian cultural history. Despite extensive studies on his work, this paper emphasizes a lesser-known dimension of his relationships with two brothers from eastern Croatia, offering new insights into his pedagogical and social connections.
