Abstract

Three-dimensional (3D) modelling is the process of creating digital representations of real or imaginary objects in three dimensions: width, depth and height. This paper presents the 3D modelling of the old town of Labin and a monument to its mining heritage. The Level of Detail (LOD) of the representation is of great importance during the modelling process, and LOD2 was applied in this paper. In the creation of the old town model, building floor plan data and a digital relief (terrain) model obtained from the State Geodetic Administration were used, as well as data collected through field research using the Smart Measure mobile application. For data processing purposes, the following software packages were utilised: LAStools for file size optimization, CloudCompare for relief creation, AutoCAD for editing floor plans, and GIMP for photo editing. The town was modelled using SketchUp software. The 3D model of the monument was created based on field data collected with the Smart Measure application, also in SketchUp.
