Sažetak

The year 1918 is significant because of the end of the First World War, but even more significant for the Croatian area is the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Croats together with other southern Slavs from the Monarchy (Slovenes and Serbs) founded the short-lived State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs in which the People’s Council held power. Svetozar Pribićević used his influence in the Council to accelerate the unification of that country with Serbia. Under his pressure, the delegation of 28 members in Belgrade gave up on the previously agreed document Naputak (eng. Instruction) and instead read a weaker document Adresa (eng. Address) to the regent Aleksandar Karađorđević, after which he proclaimed the unification of the two states on December 1, 1918. Based on the literature, the paper tries to show the political, social, military, international and other aspects of the situation that influenced the political destiny of the State of SHS and the Croatian people.
