Confidence in the Media

Sažetak
We were interested in how much confidence people in Croatia have in the media. The research shows that there is a low level of confidence in all media. People have a little more trust in Croatian Catholic Radio, and in local radio stations. Confidence in Croatian Catholic Radio is connected to the high degree of confidence people have in the Catholic Church in Croatia, because the Church is the institution with the greatest credibility in Croatian society. Local radio stations are probably much more honest and unofficial, therefore people trust them much more than other media. However, we did not investigate the influence of some media. People said that they have little confidence in television, but this doesn't mean that television has a small influence on them.
Having more confidence in the media are religious people, older and less educated people, and those who were born in villages. This applies to television, State Radio stations and Croatian Catholic Radio.
Also, we asked about how much confidence people have in the objectivity of catholic media reporting. We found that people have more confidence in the objectivity of religious reporting, and reporting about Church life. People have less confidence in the objective reporting of Catholic media in the area of public affairs, especially concerning the economic and political situation in Croatia.
It is of particular interest that Catholic media have a chance to be the media in which society has the greatest confidence. How long will it be like this, and in which way will they use this opportunity? This remains to be seen in future research.
