Abstract

The fortification of sacred buildings, such as churches, constitutes
a special form of fortification architecture. The paper examines
the emergence of relevant architecture, namely the fortification
of medieval churches during the late Middle Ages and
the modern era, in the Požega Valley and the Slavonian mountains.
Several fortified churches were previously known in the
aforementioned area, and on this occasion a new example of a
building of the same type is presented, which has been investigated
archaeologically and is in the conservation-and-presentation
phase. In addition, data is provided on potential locations
of fortified churches in the observed area.
