Abstract
The paper reports the course and conclusion of the international symposium »Land fragmentation and land consolidation in CEE
and CIS: A gate towards sustainable rural development in the new millenium« (Munich, February 25-28, 2002). Participants of this symposium were representatives of some international organizations,
German associations, the Technical University of Munich, representatives of 23 European countries, mostly from Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. The aim of this symposium was to
inform experts from Central and Eastern Europe of the land consolidation model wich has been successfully used in West European countries and to recommend some guidelines for the successful implementation of land consolidation in their countries. Studies and analyses made by FAO experts with the purpose of improvement of agrarian structure in some East European countries
were used as a base for present study as well. In the first part of this
text some facts about the situation characterising farm land and the
implementation of land consolidation in West and East Euopean countries are summarized. In one ward, while the farm land in East
European countries is dispersed and fragmented, and undemocraticaly
implemented land consolidation was focussed on greater food production, the land consolidation in West European countries has been implemented in democratic way and as a tool of comprehensive
land and space arrangement. In the second part of text you can find
the translated »Munich Statement on land consolidation as a tool for rural development in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and in the
Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS )« which was adopted at
the closing of the symposium.
