Abstract

In the first part of the paper the improvement of education in the field of social work in Croatia in the period from 1997 to 2002 has been analysed. Selected as most important is the inclusion of social work into the classification of scientific fields and the beginning of post-graduate education in the field of social activities. In the second part of the work the author analyses the interdependence between the development of social work as a profession and the education of social workers. Special attention is given to International Standards of Education in Social Work. Their comparison with the existing programme of eduation for social workers in Croatia has proved the need for systematic introduction of the concept of human rights and professional ethics throughout the whole programme. The further development of education of social workers in Croatia has been put into the context of globalisation, transition and social reform in Croatia.
