Abstract

The book Beyond Lisbon a European Strategy for Globalisation edited by Laurent Cohen-Tanugi emphasizes three aspects: the balance sheet of Lisbon Strategy since 2000, the challenges in 2008-2010 Cycle (Lisbon III) and a new European strategy for globalisation beyond 2010 (named EuroWorld 2015). This book is useful to better understand current developments as well as overall results obtained by Lisbon Strategy in almost ten years. It also emphasizes the problems of its right implementation and a necessary refocusing on innovation, especially now in the competitive context of globalization. The author, like a final message, wants to put in the hands of the next mandate of Commission the responsibility of the “EuroWorld 2015” strategy’s implementation. The new strategy should prepare the EU more competitive in the next decade to face the challenge of the emerging countries and to make Europe the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world.
