Abstract

Connections between multiculturalism and social work theory and practice can be found from the beginnings of social work regarding racial, ethnic and gender issues. However, only in the last decades has the concept of multiculturalism been systematically discussed in theoretical and practical sense. Global population movements contribute to the importance of this theme. Considering that in our domain these themes are quite unfamiliar, the paper provides an overview of key concepts of culture and multiculturalism, dimensions and practical implications of cultural competency as well as its implications on education of social workers, and significance of multiculturalism for community social work.

Keywords
