Abstract
This paper contains the outline of companies in processing industry in the spatial-economic structure of Banovina (Banija), a traditionally underdeveloped region in the southern part of Sisak and Moslavina County. The emphasis is on the spacing and branch structure of the industry, the size of the company and the number of employees. The comparison with the industrial structure of the northern, more developed part of the county (Sisačka Posavina, Moslavina) has also been done. The conclusion is that in Banovina the industry is centred in particular old district centres (Petrinja, Glina, Hrvatska Kostajnica), and also that branches based on cheap owned raw material (wood-processing, food-processing industry) dominate in the area. Although small firms, very often on the level of small family businesses, dominate in the space structure, almost half of the number of the industrial workers are employed in one big company (Gavrilović ltd.). At the end of the paper there is a short review of the important industrial capacities in particular administrative towns and districts.
