Abstract
Light is electromagnetic radiation that is visible to human and animal eye, and is indispensable for any organism. Chromotherapy is an alternative healing method. Although this method has been gaining on its popularity only recently, it is known that its origins date back to Greek and Roman times. Colors are different, therefore their effects on an organism are also different. Exposure to particular color and its intensity affect activity of specific enzymes and fasten biochemical reactions in an organism. Chromotherapy can be applied on sport horses to improve their blood circulation, to heal wounds, to treat edema, and also to relieve pain, to relax muscles and to boost collagen production and RNA and DNA synthesis. Solarium for sport horses is a system of several red lamps emitting short-wavelength infrared light and producing infrared heat similar to sun. Infrared rays heat horse muscles, thus stimulating blood circulation, feed absorption, muscle relaxation, and reducing stress and tension, all of which positively affect horse nervous and immune systems. Chromameter is used for measuring the intensity of grey color (most commonly on Lipizzan horses) in order to determine relations between graying and melanoma in horses, which is also scientifically proven. Infrared thermography is widely used in veterinary medicine. In the area of horse breeding thermal display possibilities are used for the purpose of early detection of abnormalities in certain tissues even before the first visible symptoms appear.
