Abstract

Investigations on the ichtiofauna of the river Ilova were carried out in the region of upper Poilovlja (Central Croatia). This part of the Ilova River has a typical Cyprinidae water flow. Research was carried out from May until August, 1988. Twenty one species of fish from 6 families were found to be present. The most abundant was from the family Cyprinidae (13 species), while the family percidae was second in place according to the number (4 species). Quantitatively, expressed by the percentage of numbers, the most representative species was the crucian carp Carassius auratus gibalio (36.74%), then the American sheat fish Amiurus nebulosus (12.8%). The greatest ichthiomass had the carp Cyprinus carpio (79.1%), the grass carp Ctonopharyn-godon idella (16.0%), the crucian carp Carassius gibelio (14.40%), etc. Investigations determined a significant presence of alochtonic fish species (Ctenopharyngodon idella, Carassius auratus gibelio, Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, Aristichthys nobilis and Amiurus nebulosus), which is above all explained by the fact that they are in the immediate area of the carp farm »Končanica«.
