Abstract
Existence of moral status is almost a fact for everyone, but when its meaning gets a broader perspective, things start to look different. Certainly we agree that is wrong to torture animals, but when it comes to our diet or to their right to live, we are not so sure anymore. I will try to explore two radical views: preference utilitarianism and ecofeminist theory. Furthermore, in this paper ecofeminist objections will show their weakness and they will not be so different from Singer's standpoint. Ecofeminist alternative will be rejected in that form of discourse, but this is not enough for us to reject it completely.
Keywords
Moral status of animals; preference utilitarianism; equal consideration of interests; ecofeminism; feminist care ethics
